Lunchbox Boombox
This project has team members totally engrossed in the task of modifying a plastic lunch box and turning it into a fully functional boom box. The kids begin by creating their own circuit board, then they solder on the electronic components and wires. After this they have to modify the lunchbox so that it will hold the completed circuit board as well as a speaker, battery pack and all requisite wiring. Once these steps are completed, they wire and attach an MP3 personal audio player to the exterior of the lunch box. Using an included USB cable, the kids are then able to connect to a computer and download their favorite songs to their boom box lunchbox!

Fourteen students are currently building their own
Lunchbox Boombox with the Tronix Team at the Park
Avenue Foundation.
We begin taping the circuit layout onto a blank
copper-plated board. We use an exacto knife to cut
the tape.

The boards are dipped into an acid tank to
remove the bare metal. Students watch while
a motor moves the boards up & down in the
acid. |

We put parts into the board: The on/off switch, the
volume control, indicator light and the amplifier
microchip. |

We solder the parts onto the board. We start with
safety rules -- the soldering iron is hot ! |
